'Queen Mary's' royal treat - Hip hop soul singer promises memorable concert tonight (8 Feb 2011)

Mary Jane Blige ( surname pronounced / "blaiz" / born January 11, 1971 ) also known as Mary J. Blige, The Queen of Hip Hop Soul, and The Queen of R&B. is an American singer, producer, songwriter, record producer and actress. Mary J. Blige is 40 years old, was born on 11 January, 1971 in Yonkers, New York.

KUALA LUMPUR : Nine-time Grammy winner Mary J. Blige, known as the "queen of hip-hop soul", has promised fans a memorable concert tonight. "If you're a fan, the set-list alone is going to blow you away," said Blige at a press event held in a hotel here yesterday.Blige's concert at the Plenary Hall in the KL Convention Centre here is her only South-East Asian date for her Music Saved My Life world tour.

"This is my first time ever here. It's good to finally see all of you. I didn't even know I have fans in Malaysia," she said with a smile.Blige, who called herself a shy person, said she named her bold onstage alter-ego "Brooklyn." "Brooklyn can say what Mary can't say. On stage, she is who Mary should be," she added. The 40-year-old, who shot to fame with her debut album What's The 411? in 1992, will be backed by her live band tonight.

She is expected to perform hits such as Family Affair, I Am, Be Without You, No More Drama, Not Gon' Cry, I'm Goin' Down and My Life. Her last album, Stronger With Each Tear (2009) debuted at No.2 on the Billboard 200 and at No.1 on the Top R&B / Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States. Blige will play legendary jazz singer Nina Simone in a forth-coming film biopic, which she said has experienced delays due to funding problems. Blige's concert here is organised by PR Worldwide Sdn Bhd. Her highness , Blige will be performing at the Plenary Hall of the KL Convention Centre tonight, 8 February 2011.
